Learning to Live a Balanced Life
WELLNESS
Six Dimensions of Wellness
The concept of wellness doesn't live in a silo at St. John's. It's woven into the academic curriculum, after-school activities, interscholastic athletics, and even the arts. Faculty and staff are empowered to build in the time and space to nurture different facets of students' well-being so that they develop the tools to make balanced, healthy choices for themselves—during their time at St. John's Prep and beyond.
To help further develop the concept of wellness and facilitate ways in which our students can connect with it in their daily lives, we focus on six specific dimensions of wellness.
- Spiritual: Meaning and purpose, values and beliefs, faith and God
- Intellectual: Critical thinking, problem solving, knowledge and learning
- Social: Relationships, communication, cultural proficiency, servant leadership
- Emotional: Self awareness and image, resiliency, stress management, coping strategies
- Physical: Nutrition, physical activity, awareness of choices on body
- Aesthetic: Appreciate the beauty of nature, creativity, perspective
Our commitment to wellness reflects our commitment to educating the whole person.

Dedicated Wellness Spaces
"Being able to work in a team environment when discussing mental wellness topics was super helpful. And especially getting exposed to that during my freshman year, I was able to carry those lessons on throughout my time at the Prep."
— Caden Rogovich '25 on his freshman Mental Skills class
Recreational Sports
Major components of physical and social wellness, recreational sports give students the opportunity to be active on their own terms. A rotating roster of active offerings that ranges from CrossFit to yoga delivers broad student appeal. With opportunities each day before and after school, recreational sports allow our students to prioritize health and wellness in a fun and flexible way. View the recreational sports calendar here.

Mental Skills Classes
All sixth and ninth graders are introduced to mental skills curriculum within their health and physical education classes. This mental skills program is designed specifically for students to begin to recognize character strengths, develop personal philosophies and mindsets, learn how to set goals, continue practice cultivating health relationships, and learn about mental health.

Wellness Fair
Each year, St. John's Prep hosts a wellness fair for all students, faculty, and staff. Dozens of outside vendors are invited to introduce students to a range of opportunities, offerings, and activities related to wellness—past fairs have included everything from yoga lessons to honey samples from local beekeepers, plank contests, photography installations, Olympic weight lifting, CPR training, intro to wrestling, and much more.
