ACADEMIC SUPPORT
The Center for Learning and Academic Success (CLAS)
The Center for Learning and Academic Success—known as CLAS for short—is a dedicated space on campus and a team of learning coaches who work to support our students academically.
We know that some students acquire and process information differently. While we do not modify the curriculum, for students who submit documentation of a diagnosed learning difference, CLAS staff will review documentation, and if appropriate, develop a Student Success Plan (SSP). Dedicated learning coaches meet with students who have SSPs to develop essential academic skills, strengthen executive functioning skills, and help students become strong self-advocates. Peer tutoring, accommodations for national standardized testing, and parent education and support are also available.
Resources through CLAS are available to all students at St. John's Prep.
While learning coaches are assigned to students with SSPs and assist on an individual level, all students are welcome to participate in CLAS's programs, events, and take advantage of the huge number of resources they have to offer.
Finals Fair
Each year, the Center for Learning and Academic Success puts on a Finals Fair to help students prepare for end-of-year exams. Teachers will often bring entire classes to CLAS, where students can learn everything from how to create an effective study guide to the importance of a good night's sleep and solid breakfast before an exam.
Resume Writing Workshops
Geared toward juniors looking to prepare their resume for college admission, internships, and future jobs, this annual workshop goes over writing and formatting strategies to help your resume stand out.
Bio Blitz
Held on Wednesdays during lunch periods, High School students can stop by CLAS for help in biology.
The Writing Center
At St. John's Prep, writing is a priority across the curriculum.
Located within the Center for Learning and Academic Success, the Writing Center offers students one-on-one consultations with trained writing coaches who assist with any stage of the writing process. The center staff is committed to helping student writers gain the confidence and competence to succeed at the Prep and beyond.
How we work with students:
- Discuss texts and writing assignments
- Assist with planning and outlining
- Provide grammar and mechanics support
- Offer strategies for meaningful revision
- Host workshops and competitions
- Provide in-class support, as requested

Meet the Learning Coaches
A.E. Studzinski Library
The A. E. Studzinski Library offers space for individuals and groups to study, to work on a projects and homework, or to conduct research for essays and assignments. Equipped with a computer lab as well as print and digital resources, the library serves as an academic environment for our teachers and students. The library staff provides individual and group research orientations to develop library literacy. With the Studzinski Libguide LibChat feature, students have the opportunity to ask research-related questions remotely.
