After a “springtime” of weather most folks on the North Shore would prefer to forget, the sun shined brightly on the fairways of Ipswich Country Club for more than 100 golfers who took part in the 10th Annual Ray Carey ’67 Diversity Fund Golf Tournament on Monday, June 10.
With Headmaster Ed Hardiman and partners leading the way off the first tee, the golf was competitive, as usual, and in the end, Team Lampropoulos, sponsored each year by George Delaney ’88 and Ipswich Maritime Products, captured first-place honors for the second time in three years, posting a winning scramble score of 59, 13 shots under par! More photos from the day are available on SmugMug.
Close behind with scores of 60, the Jake Collins/Kevin Collins/Joe Rocha ’88/Rick Roche group edged the Barry Kolano ’80/Nick Velonis ’79/Steve Johns ’79/Sean Sawyer ’11 foursome on a match of cards, grabbing runner-up bragging rights for the day.
And in the popular tournament putting contest, Jim Mulligan ’68 was this year’s champion, outlasting Mike Cronin ’79 in double overtime after those two had knocked out Barry Kolano ’80 and Michael Santilli ’09 in the final round.
As usual, track coach emeritus Ray Carey was pleased to see many of his former Prep athletes show up in support of the day. And, once again, attendees were honored to meet and hear from Raisa Carrasco-Velez, our Director of Multicultural Affairs & Community Development, who joined folks for dinner to say hello and thank them for their support of this growing mission at the Prep.
