“Surely it is not I, Lord?” ”Not me Lord. I don’t do those things.” ”Other folks break your commandments and disappoint you, but not me, right?”
How many times do I make excuses for my own behavior while pointing the finger at someone who did something worse than me? It’s only human to see the flaws in other people’s behavior while ignoring that little voice of conscience that says, “You do that too!”
If you don’t recognize yourself as a sinner like everyone else then you can’t understand the truly awe inspiring gift of Jesus’ ultimate sacrifice. You’re basically saying, “Hey, Jesus, thanks for dying for me but I really didn’t need to be redeemed” because “Surely it is not I, Lord?” I’m going to try to keep this in mind as we go into Holy Week. I’m going to say, “Yes Lord, it probably was me. I’m sorry.”
God Bless and Happy Easter.
