St. John’s Prep offers convenient, high quality prep courses for both the HSPT and the SSAT high school admission tests. Taught by St. John’s teachers trained in test preparation, the courses use practice material carefully chosen to provide students with:
- Effective strategies to help them cope with both math and verbal problems
- Extensive practice with HSPT and SSAT questions
- Foundation necessary to boost confidence
Our faculty will help students to increase their scores by preparing them with the test-taking skills necessary to read and solve problems efficiently and accurately. Students will learn to eliminate incorrect answers and make wise educated guesses. Our faculty will help students to increase speed without compromising accuracy. All classes include pre- and post-test materials as well as all classroom and study materials.

Recommended for grade 8 students, the HSPT is preferred by most Catholic high schools. The exam is approximately 2½ hours long and is given in November and December. All questions are multiple choice; there is no essay. Students are tested on reading, sentence completion, verbal skills, spelling and vocabulary, and quantitative skills. Students can only take the HSPT one time so thorough preparation is critical. The HSPT Prep course offered at St. John's prepares students for all areas of the exam.
St. John's offers a prep course for the upper level SSAT for students in grades 8 to 11. Preferred by most private high schools, the exam is approximately 2½ hours in length and consists of multiple choice questions and a written essay. The test is given several times a year (see www.ssat.org). Students are tested on reading, verbal, and quantitative skills. The prep course offered at St. John's prepares students for all areas of the exam. Practice Tests as well as a carefully designed custom textbook are provided.
This course is designed specifically for students applying to both Catholic and private schools.
