Theory and Practice of Digital Learning - Honors, Accelerated [1/2 credit]
The Theory and Practice of Digital Learning will provide students with an opportunity to learn computational thinking and problem solving and pursue their own interests in educational technology. This blended learning course will meet once a week before school from September through May, with the bulk of students’ work being done online outside of the class meetings. Individual meetings with course instructors will also be scheduled regularly and as needed. Students will first learn how networking, hardware, and software make education technology accessible and secure. Individually and in small groups, students will carry out their own research, analysis, and creative-problem solving as they tackle real world education technology issues and consult with education technology professionals both within and outside the St. John’s Prep community. Student choice will drive the focus of digital learning projects and the personalized capstone project, and all student products will be evaluated at a high level and will be shared with the community via the course website.
