Our commitment to stewarding the environmental resources of the world we share begins with our 175-acre campus. Here are some examples of how we live this priority.

  • Solar Power—Solar array installed with construction of the Leo and Joan Mahoney Wellness Center saved 741,766 kilowatt hours of energy in FY 2018 or the equivalent of:
    • 118 passenger vehicles driven for one year, or...
    • 1.3 million miles of driving for one car, or...
    • 192 tons of waste recycled instead of dumped in landfill, or...
    • 83 homes' electricity use for one year
  • Lighting—LED lights installed in Memorial Gymnasium, 21 Spring Street, Brother Keefe, C.F.X. Academic Center, Brother Benjamin Hall, the Leo and Joan Mahoney Wellness Center, outdoor tennis courts and campus parking areas
  • Adaptive Reuse—Building at 21 Spring Street, formerly a residence for the Xavier Center, converted to office space for Finance and Facilities offices
  • Recycling—All exterior recycling containers now clearly marked; wherever there is a trash can, there's a recycle can
  • Composting—Improved composting results in dining halls:
    • From 100 pounds a week to 1,000 pounds a week
    • 30 percent reduction in non-recyclable waste
  • Energy Efficiency
    • Insulation added in Administration Building and 21 Spring Street
    • Occupancy sensors installed at 21 Spring Street
    • Yearly replacements of old light fixtures with new LED
  • New Windows—All of the original, single-pane windows in the Administration Building, one of our oldest buildings on campus, were replaced with energy efficient insulated window units to take full advantage of the benefits of the building's recently-replaced HVAC system, and new roof insulation.
  • Replacing Equipment—
    • New high efficiency boiler installed in Brother Benjamin Hall
    • New system installed to replace oil-fired boiler, steam heating and window air conditioning units in the Administration Building
  • New Construction—Sustainable focus on new construction with LEED Silver design and construction processes for the construction of the Brother Keefe, C.F.X. Academic Center (2015) and the Leo and Joan Mahoney Wellness Center (2017), and renovations in Brother Benjamin Hall (2015)
