Day In the Life: Massi C. '28

7:30 am - Arrive At School
Massi starts his day after getting dropped off in Ryken, where he picks up his saxophone and heads off to rehearsal for Concert Band. “It’s a bit more laid back this week, since we just had a concert.” He says. He adds that he’s playing or practicing just about every day, between the concert band meeting 4 days a week and the woodwind ensemble club which meets on the off day.
8:20 am - First Class, Algebra 2 / Trig
Massi then heads off to Keefe Hall for his first class of the day. As a sophomore who took Geometry in his freshman year, he takes Algebra 2/Trig, which is a class that is a mix of sophomores and juniors. The curriculum is usually focused on preparing students for the pre-calculus class they are likely to take next year.

9:31 am - Chemistry
As a sophomore, Massi is also taking chemistry, where they are currently splitting time between the lab and the classroom learning about stoichiometry.
10:37 - AP COmputer Science PRinciples
In sophomore year, students are able to start taking AP classes in their schedule. Massi currently takes two, first of which being AP Computer Science Principles. The class mostly covers the field of Computer Science from a high-level view, with the curriculum incorporating both the AP test material which focuses on the history and uses for computers and computer systems with real world applications in computer science, like how algorithms operate.
11:09 am - Lunch
Like most, Massi heads over to the Milano dining hall for lunch. "Most guys pick one side and one table they stick with all four years." He describes.
"Me personally, I'm always first table on the left side of the Cafe"
12:28 pm - AP European History
The second of Massi’s two APs is AP European History. The class covers the history of the continent of Europe from the medieval era all the way to modern day. While the class moves at a pretty fast pace, the class often takes time to drill down on specific topics with more hands-on activities like mock-trials and practicing DBQs– writing essays that incorporate primary historical sources.
1:34pm - early Church
Massi finishes his day on a similarly historical note with his Early Church class. Early Church focuses on the period of the Catholic Church from after Christ’s resurrection and ascension all the way to right before the first Vatican Council. The next semester, he will take Modern Church, which picks up right where Early Church left off.
2:34 PM - Extracurriculars
Massi says he’s got a pretty jam-packed schedule after the last bell rings: “Mondays is Engineering club, Wednesday is Woodwinds ensemble. Otherwise, I go right to the robotics lab and put in some work for our next competition. Usually, the rest of the team will be in and out, running trials and stuff, but sometimes it's nice to just get some work done alone in the lab.”
