Leadership at St. John's
An essential part of the Prep experience is learning to take on leadership roles within the school community and beyond. Read on to learn about two of the programs that guide students on their journey to becomming young leaders.
XBSS Xaverian Brothers Sponsored Schools: Each spring, the 12 Xaverian Brothers Sponsored Schools (XBSS) in the United States hold a five-day leadership retreat for student representatives from each of the schools. The theme of the retreat, "Falling in Love with the Service of God," comes from the words of Theodore James Ryken, founder of the Xaverian Brothers. During the Founder's Day liturgy in December, the six members of the junior class who will represent St. John's that year are introduced to the school community.
Prep Leadership Institute (PLI): This week-long program for incoming seniors takes place each August at an area college. Students learn effective leadership strategies from alumni and faculty, who speak about their own experiences as leaders in the community. Through team building activities, service projects, and prayer, these young men learn about themselves and strengthen the bonds they share with their Prep brothers. We are grateful to the many faculty members and administrators who set aside this week during the summer to share the PLI experience with our incoming seniors. It is a week filled with laughter, sharing, and compassionate service for those in need.
