Course Requirements

Course requirements for graduation from St. John's Prep are outlined below by year. All courses are full-year unless otherwise indicated. Full-year courses are worth 1 credit; semester courses are worth ½ credit. All students must take a ½ credit computer science, fine arts and physical education course before graduating. Starting with the Class of 2016, all students are required to take Introduction to Algorithmic Thinking and Computational Technologies. This requirement may also be fulfilled by taking AP Computer Science A, Programming with Java and the Internet, Introduction to Programming Using C++, or Programming in Visual Basic.

Course Levels and Placement

We use the placement test results to help ensure that students are placed in the appropriate level class during his freshman year. Class levels for freshman are College Preparatory, Accelerated, and Honors. Subjects offered at these levels are English, mathematics, world languages, science, and history. Religious studies and fine arts courses are not leveled in the freshmen year. We work with students in the first several weeks of the school year, and throughout his experience, to ensure that he is challenged but not overwhelmed as he makes the adjustment to life at St. John's Prep.
