We are St. John's
St. John's Prep is a place where boys find the inspiration and room they need to grow - intellectually, spiritually, creatively and physically. A Catholic day school that welcomes young men from all faiths and diverse backgrounds, we draw on a long tradition of excellence to foster a culture where students value doing well.
We challenge our students with a rigorous academic program that taps into the abundant talents of a gifted faculty. We offer the kind of extracurricular opportunities that allow every boy to explore the full range of his interests and talents. And most importantly, we ask our students to look beyond their own experiences to the needs of those in the world around them.
A Prep education
Broad in scope and rich with opportunities, a Prep education prepares young men to succeed in college and beyond. But a Prep education offers more. It challenges students to grow in faith and wisdom, to promote human dignity, to act with compassion and integrity, to pursue peace and justice, and to live lives of service to society. This has been our mission since 1907 and it continues to guide us in everything we do.
We are Xaverian
As a Xaverian Brothers sponsored school, we dedicate ourselves to the work of Theodore James Ryken, a young shoemaker of uncommon vision who founded the Congregation of the Brothers of St. Francis Xavier in Belgium in 1839.
Inspired by the conviction that faith finds its full expression in service to others, Ryken set out to establish a "brotherhood, a society of men, bound by vows of religion and living in community" to work among the poor. This commitment to those who live on the margins of society endures as a fundamental Xaverian value today, and it informs everything that we do at St. John's.
The strength of community
Like Ryken and the Xaverian Brothers, we aspire to the virtues of compassion, humility, simplicity, trust and zeal. Like Ryken and the Xaverian Brothers, we find strength in community. And like Ryken and the Xaverian Brothers, we take a contemplative stance in the world through spiritual formation and prayer. Continuing the journey that began more than 150 years ago, we dedicate ourselves to educating young men of faith, brotherhood and wisdom - young men who, like Ryken, will make a difference in the world.
