Spotlight on the Engineering Club
Here's a snapshot of what students in the the Engineering Club do at the weekly meeting, for learning, for the challenge, and just for fun.
During a recent meeting, one team built a circuit to learn how to use an Arduino microcontroller. Eventually, they will use the microcontroller to program and control the weather station the group is creating.
The weather station will eventually measure wind speed and direction as well as temperature, humidity and rainfall, a lot of information to manage!
At the same time, in another part of the lab, a group of seniors and sophomores tackled the challenge of making a safer bicycle.
They experimented with different methods of controlling power to LED lights as they design, plan and build a bike wheel that will flash continually as the bike is ridden.
Led by Marcus Soule of the Prep Science Department, the Engineering Club meets every Wednesday in the physics lab on the first floor of Brother Benjamin Hall.
The Engineering Club is just one of may after school options open to students at St. John's. Explore the clubs directory on the left to see what might interest YOU!
