Middle School Applicants – Steps to Apply

Grade 6 Applicants
  • Submit your online application with $50 fee. As part of the online application, you will be asked to provide two recommendations: 1.) Headmaster/Principal/Counselor (this will release your official school transcript), and 2.) current homeroom teacher.
  • Schedule a family interview with a member of the Admission staff; please contact the Office of Admission at 978-624-1301 to schedule your interview.
  • Come for Shadow Day. Call the Admission Office at 978-624-1301 if your son would like to spend a day on campus! It's not required, but it's a great way for boys to learn more about what it's like to go to the Prep.
  • Take an admission test. St. John's accepts the ISEE or SSAT.
Grade 7 and 8 Applicants

Students applying to grades 7 and 8 are considered transfer applicants.

  • Submit your online application with $50 fee. As part of the online application, you will be asked to provide three recommendations: 1.) Headmaster/Principal/Counselor (this will release your official school transcript), 2.) current English teacher, and 3.) current math teacher.
  • Schedule a student interview with a member of the Admission team; please contact the Office of Admission at 978-624-1301 to schedule your interview.
  • Take an admission test. St. John's accepts the ISEE or SSAT.
  • Transfer applications are considered, on a rolling basis, after April 1.

Middle School Applicants – Testing Information

ISEE: St. John's will offer the ISEE on Saturday, December 16, 2017, and Saturday, January 13, 2018. If you take the exam at another school, indicate that your scores should be sent to St. John's Prep (code #570750). Registration information can be found online here.

SSAT: St. John's also accepts the SSAT if taken no later than January 20, 2018. The St. John's Prep SSAT member number is 6537. Registration information can be found online at www.ssat.org.

High School Applicants – Steps to Apply

Grade 9 Applicants
  • Submit your online application with $50 fee. As part of the online application, you will be asked to provide three recommendations: 1.) Headmaster/Principal/Counselor (this will release your official school transcript), 2.) current English teacher, and 3.) current math teacher
  • Take an admission test. St. John's accepts the HSPT or SSAT.
  • Come for Shadow Day: Call the Admission office at 978-624-1301 to schedule a shadow day for your son. This is optional, but a great way for boys to see our school in action.
  • Schedule an interview with a member of the Admission team. This is an optional part of the application process, but we welcome the opportunity to learn more about your son. There are limited interview openings, so please call 978-624-1301 if you would like to schedule a time.
Transfer Applicants

Students applying to grades 10 and 11 are considered transfer applicants.

  • Submit your online application with $50 fee. As part of the online application, you will be asked to provide three recommendations: 1.) Headmaster/Principal/Counselor (this will release your official school transcript), 2.) current English teacher, and 3.) current math teacher.
  • Schedule a student interview with a member of the Admission team; please contact the Office of Admission at 978-624-1301 to schedule your interview.
  • Provide a school profile.
  • Transfer applications are considered, on a rolling basis, after April 1.

St. John's does not accept applications for senior year or a post graduate year. Students applying for transfer admission are eligible to apply for tuition assistance at St. John's; see more about tuition assistance here.

High School Applicants – Testing Information

High School Placement Test (HSPT): St. John's will offer the HSPT on November 4 and December 2, 2017. If you take the exam at another school, indicate that your scores should be sent to St. John's Prep (code #19). The scores will be sent directly to families at the end of January; St. John's does not release the scores. Use this link to register.

  • Testing will take place in the Brother Keefe, C.F.X. Academic Center on Saturday, November 4. Doors will open at 8:00 am and the test will begin at 8:30 am. Students should bring the following items:
    • A couple of black lead No. 2 pencils
    • A water bottle and/or snack
    • CALCULATORS MAY NOT BE USED DURING THE TEST, unless your child is testing with accommodations and this is a specifically stated accommodation on your child's service sheet.

Parents are welcome to stay for the length of the test. Coffee, light refreshments and wifi will be available. Jennifer Glover, Director of Admission, will hosy an admission Q&A for parents interested in the admission process at St. John's Prep.

SSAT: St. John's also accepts the SSAT if taken no later than December 23, 2017. The St. John's Prep SSAT member number is 6537. Registration information can be found online at www.ssat.org.

International Applicants

St. John’s Prep seeks to honor the diversity that enriches our school community and the world beyond St. John’s through accepting highly qualified international students. Currently, we work with an agency to enroll students from China, and more than 20 Chinese students attend St. John's. If you are interested in learning more about this program and the opportunities offered by St. John's, please note that St. John's:

  • Accepts international students into grades 9 and 10.
  • Offers dedicated faculty support for international students.
  • Provides counselors to assist students in college application and selection.
  • Is authorized by SEVIS to issue I-20 forms.
  • Tuition for international students, $30,430 for the 2017-2018 school year, reflects the additional services and supports provided for our international students.
All interested international students should email Michael Kelley '09, Assistant Director of Admission, for more information. If you are interested in becoming a host family for an international student at St. John's, please contact Mr. Kelley.
